"Brodski prevrtac" as the name itself says, comes from Slavonski
Brod. It's said that first pigeons, from which the today's "Brodski
prevrtac" originates was brought to Slav.Brod in the fifties.
The person that can be connected with the name of these pigeons was
Mr.Kopiæ, who was a boat worker. The exact origin of these pigeons
is not known although according to their appearance they remind us of
pigeons from eastern European countries. These pigeons that were brought
to our country ended up with Mr.Rema, who brings them up and spreads
them over whole Slav.Brod and its area. A part from these pigeons it's
known that in the early steps of their brings up and also used the Comaronian,
oriental and pigeons from Zagreb.
The last cross-
breeding with the pigeons from this area was done in the seventies with
the Indian floor pigeons. All these cross-breedings have surly improved
certain characteristics of the today's "Brodski prevrtac",
about unfortunately they also had same draw- backs. The majority of
race with who "Brodski prevrtac" had the cross breedings
don't have very good and clear turning- over (turning upside down) characteristick.
That is the real reason why one eventually did not continue with these
cross- breedings. The today's "Brodski prevrtac" is
mostly the output of the the up- bringing and the persistency of the
great number of the people who care a lot about the pigeons present
on the area of slavonski Brod and even further. The main aim is the
well know turning over done by the pigeons. There fore their appearance
is neglested in a way.
Today on territory
of slavonski Brod, according to the last pills of information, around
300 pigeons- fanciers bring this sort of pigeons up. The most frequent
flocks have around 30 pigeons. This tells us how many pigeons of this
sort there are on this territory. Apart from this area the great population
of the pigeons can be founded in Bosnian area, precisely in Od&http://fachschaft.cwsurf.de/zoplanethr/#158;ak
and Ora&http://fachschaft.cwsurf.de/zoplanethr/#154;je. Also some pigeon- fanciers of this sort can be founded
in other parts of croatia as well. Because of the constant moving of
these pigeon- fancier ( due the war) a lot of pigeons can be now days
foulness in Germany, Holland, Australia and Canada. All these facts
give this sort of pigeons characteristics of one settled race that has
its history and surely a good future.
The first thing
that can be noticed about this pigeons is that he gives us the impression
of one pigeons of the sport rather that the "Brodski prevrtac".
These pigeons, in the great number don't have a crown on their head,
altought there are examples of those who have, but the number of those
is rather small. The turning over is the basic characteristic of this
sort of pigeon. They start turning rather early. In the very beginning
the most fragment shapes of turningover are so called turning over similar
to the one made and falling on the tight. However, all these shapes
of flying are undesirable when it comes to an old and alredy formed
pigeons. The most appreciated way of turning over is the one in the
shape of the number two. It is about a double rotation done backwards.
This double rotation is performed very quickly so that the pigeon does
not loose on the height and distiction of the flight. They do not rotate
only in the shape of the number two in the air above houses in the free
flight, but they also rotate when flying between houses and certain
pigeon also in the attics and pigeon loft.
It is desirable
that the pigeon makes as many tows as possible on a definite distance
and by doing so not to loos on heights, further on, to fly normally
and not to perform any other shapes but the one in the shape in the
number two. Each turning over done once or falling on the tail and rotation
done in the way swallows do it is considered to be a mistake. Many pigeons,
especially the young ones can be die performing such actions.
STANDARD
HEAD: It has a
round head with a bit flat top head. It is similar to the head of the
English tipler.
EYES: Usually they have white eyes. Apart from the white pigeons, who
have dark eyes with white to pine eye-frames.
BEAK: Medium size with a bit swaddled top. The colour of the beak depends
on the colour of the pigeon. It is desirable for it to be in the correlation
with the colour of the nails. Highly appreciate are the black pigeons
with with beaks and white nails.
NECK: Medium length, well developed in the bottom area. Together with
the chest it makes a nice whole.
CHEST: Wide, full and well rounded.
BACK: flat, wide with the slight falling to the tail.
WINGS: Medium strong, rich with feathers lying on the tail, nicely wrap
the back up.
TAIL: A bit longer than the wings, nicely put together
LEGS: Short to medium length, red colour. It is desirable that colour
of the nails matches the colour of the black.
FEATHER: Compact, nicely put together, dens and shiny.
COLOURS: Whit basic colours: white, black, red, yellow, blue, red and
ashen, Our san frequently find pigeons with coloured flying feathers
and also mottled pigeons. With mottled pgeons it is desirable for two
colours to be properly matchless.
DEFECTS: To long an high body, long and strait head, starit and completely
flat beak, dissimilar eyes (according to colour) expressive eyes-frames,
long neck, starit back, shingles feather, "hanging wings",
raised tail.
MAJOR MISTAKES: For do not have the ability of turning over upside down.
